Poppy Completed/Week Ends

The windows are finished... it's been a long day but it's finally time to go home... see you next week for the big Mothers Day Installation.

Mothers Day vinyl Samples

The only problem is this is last years logo!!!

POPPY Time!

Now that we finally have the graphics we can start to pull together the windows... finally

I hired an installer to help out with laminating the risers and covering the two mini vestibules,
and Im DANG happy I did.

I send the team to lunch and paint out the windows hoping they will be dry when they return in an hour... and hoping I get a nibble when I finish this painting.

Leave it to our painter to paint around the door of the window.
Seriously these guys are the highest paid lowest quality workers EVER.

Things are buzzing right along with the windows thanks to the team.

The Dock of the Bays

I get the call that the Poppy Window materials have arrived on the dock so I text the team to meet me there so we can pick them up and get started... BUT...
while I'm snapping this pic of the now entombed 7th Ave windows a well meaning sales associate engages me in a lengthy dialog about how he would like to be in windows... you see dear reader everyone thinks we have a glamourous job and it must be really easy as it looks so FUN.
I get out of the convo finally and head to the dock.

The loading dock is where 80% of our deliveries come to or exit from and also where we crush all our garbage so we spend a lot of time here.

I'm too late the team grabbed the goods and headed to the windows.

Working on the Windows

Now for the remaining four windows... the minis have been closed since the blue wood was in them so they are a bit beaten up... we shall need to patch these as the painter is off today.

That's BETTER!!

The frame wires are painted out!
(the bosses pet peeve if they ain't)

Christmas Concept

We also work on our Christmas Window concept a bit today, it may seem early to you dear reader but we should already be 100% approved and working with several fabrication companies on their formal bids to the store at this point as we design and build the christmas windows for about a dozen stores here in New York.

Large Scale Prototype

Hmmm... looks good! We will meet in the morning to discuss

Crunching Numbers/Schedule

Once we have our concept it's my gig to put a cost to it as well as sit with the visual operations manager and schedule painters/carpenters. So I spend a decent chunk of the afternoon working on this...

Mothers Day Concept

As these windows are installing next week today's mission is to
design a concept and get the team to create a few prototypes.
Generally we like to start with the marketing the store is using but 'distort' it enough that it becomes our own original concept.

We go through a bunch of concepts and land on oversized sections of the paper flowers used in the marketing.

and experiment with a small dimensional model of the concept.

as well as create a quick concept rendering to go over with our team leads as they will fabricate these oversized flowers and install them.

Thursday April 14th

Today starts as most days in recent weeks playing Pokemon at the meeting spot until we walk the windows, today I get caught playing by my big bosses and a few random friends.

We find the door to our 'Wonderland' window busted open and on the floor behind the display... strange.

Someone has added some strange verbiage under the 789
shadowboxes.

All in all not a bad morning walk which should allow us time to work on Mothers Day window concepts and prototypes.

Repo the Chairs

A few minor adjustments with the boss and we are outta here... there's a big reception for our new designer upstairs but we would head home to rest.

Measure & Measure some more

As much as I hate to constantly measure for our projects I hate more when things arrive the wrong size... so we measure and measure and measure. This set is for a window next November, which is surrealistically far from today but I will play along with the vendor that this will actually happen...LOL...

My lovely hand drawn spec file.

Which cleans up really nice and will be added to the window measurement book to be kept for ever and ever. (and ever)
